# Haber in the present: he, has, ha — and hay

> id: conjugation.present.irregular-haber · category: conjugation · depth: standard · levels: A2 · review: internally_reviewed

**Summary.** He, has, ha, hemos, habéis, han: the auxiliary of every perfect tense. The impersonal form hay means 'there is / there are'.

Haber is almost never a standalone verb in modern Spanish. Its present — he, has, ha, hemos, habéis, han — exists to build the present perfect: he comido, has visto, hemos llegado.

The special impersonal form hay expresses existence: hay un problema, hay muchas opciones. It stays singular even with plural nouns.

Don't confuse haber with tener: possession is always tener (tengo dos hijos), never haber.

## Examples
