# Stem change u → ue: jugar

> id: conjugation.present.stem-u-ue · category: conjugation · depth: standard · levels: A2 · review: internally_reviewed

**Summary.** Jugar is the only common u → ue verb: juego, juegas, juega, jugamos, jugáis, juegan.

Jugar behaves exactly like an o → ue boot verb, except its stem vowel is u: juego, juegas, juega, juegan, with jugamos and jugáis unchanged.

It is essentially the only everyday verb with this alternation, so treat it as a one-off rather than a family.

Note the spelling interaction in other tenses: because the stem ends in g, the preterite yo and the subjunctive write gu before e (jugué, juegue) — see the -car/-gar/-zar spelling rule.

## Examples
- Juego al fútbol los domingos. — I play football on Sundays.
- ¿Jugamos una partida? — Shall we play a game?
- Los niños juegan en el patio. — The kids play in the yard.
