# Pluperfect subjunctive: hubiera hecho

> id: conjugation.subjunctive.pluperfect · category: conjugation · depth: standard · levels: B2, C1 · review: internally_reviewed

**Summary.** Hubiera (or hubiese) + participle: si hubiera sabido... The engine of regrets and unreal pasts, paired with the conditional perfect.

Form: imperfect subjunctive of haber (hubiera/hubiese) + participle: hubiera dicho, hubiésemos llegado.

Its flagship structure is the third conditional: si hubiera estudiado, habría aprobado. In speech, hubiera often replaces the conditional perfect in the main clause too: si hubiera estudiado, hubiera aprobado — both are heard everywhere.

Alone with ojalá it voices pure regret: ojalá hubiera venido — 'if only he had come'.

## Examples
- Si hubiera sabido, te habría avisado. — If I had known, I would have told you.
- Ojalá hubiéramos comprado en 2020. — If only we had bought in 2020.
- No me hubiera imaginado eso de él. — I wouldn't have imagined that of him. *(hubiera for habría, common in speech.)*
