# Seguir + gerund: still doing it

> id: grammar.verbs.seguir-gerund · category: grammar · depth: standard · levels: B1 · review: internally_reviewed

**Summary.** Sigo esperando = 'I'm still waiting'. Seguir/continuar + gerund expresses continuation — never seguir + infinitive.

Conjugated seguir + gerund: sigue lloviendo, seguimos trabajando en eso, ¿sigues viviendo en el centro? English 'keep/still + -ing' maps here.

The infinitive is impossible in this pattern: *sigo a esperar doesn't exist. For 'no longer', use ya no + simple verb: ya no trabajo allí.

Continuar works the same way and is a touch more formal (continúa lloviendo). The opposite — 'no longer' — is not expressed with this periphrasis but with ya no + a simple verb: ya no llueve, ya no vivo allí. And as with all gerund periphrases, the connector is bare: never *seguir a + infinitive.

## Examples
- ¿Sigues pensando en mudarte? — Are you still thinking about moving?
- La empresa sigue creciendo. — The company keeps growing.
- Sigo trabajando en el proyecto, pero ya no trabajo los fines de semana. — I'm still working on the project, but I no longer work weekends.
