# Agreeing and disagreeing

**Summary.** Agree: (estoy) de acuerdo, tenés razón, exacto, claro, eso. Disagree: no estoy de acuerdo, no lo veo así, sí, pero..., depende.

Full agreement: totalmente, tal cual, eso mismo, ni hablar (emphatic yes in the Southern Cone). Partial: en parte sí, puede ser, hasta cierto punto.

Polite disagreement cushions first: entiendo tu punto, pero...; sí, pero fijate que...; no sé si tanto. Blunt no tenés razón is rare; depende and yo lo veo distinto do the work.

Disagreement is almost always cushioned first: open with entiendo tu punto, pero… or sí, pero fijate que… rather than a flat no tenés razón, which sounds harsh. Depende and yo lo veo distinto are the workhorses for stepping back without confrontation.

- Tenés razón, mejor lo confirmamos por escrito. — You're right, better to confirm it in writing.
- Entiendo, pero yo lo veo distinto. — I understand, but I see it differently.
- Entiendo tu punto, pero no lo veo así del todo. — I see your point, but I don't quite see it that way.
