**Summary.** ¿Puedo + infinitive? / ¿se puede + infinitive? / ¿te importa si...? / ¿hay problema si...? Granting: claro, adelante, por supuesto; refusing: mejor no, preferiría que no.

Neutral: ¿puedo pasar?, ¿puedo pagar con tarjeta? Impersonal ¿se puede? works at doors and counters: ¿se puede estacionar acá?

¿Te importa si...? + indicative asks if they mind: ¿te importa si abro la ventana? — granting answer is no (no me importa = go ahead), a classic trap for English speakers.

Watch the ¿te importa si…? trap: it literally asks 'does it bother you if…', so granting permission means answering no — no, para nada / no, dale = go ahead — the opposite of the English 'sure'. Neutral ¿puedo…? and impersonal ¿se puede? cover most situations at doors and counters.
