Reflexive verbs: levantarse, ducharse, irse

Many daily-routine verbs are reflexive: me levanto, te duchas, se acuesta. Some verbs are pronominal without literal reflexion: quejarse, atreverse.

Explicación

Daily routine runs on reflexives: despertarse, levantarse, ducharse, vestirse, acostarse. The pronoun matches the subject and follows clitic placement rules: voy a ducharme / me voy a duchar.

Some verbs only exist with se (quejarse, arrepentirse, atreverse), and others change nuance with it — see reflexive meaning changes (ir/irse, dormir/dormirse).

The pronoun must agree with the subject (me, te, se, nos, os, se) and follows the usual clitic placement: before a conjugated verb (me levanto) but attached to an infinitive, gerund, or affirmative command (voy a levantarme, levantándome, ¡levántate!). With parts of the body and clothing, the reflexive replaces the possessive: me lavo las manos, not *lavo mis manos.
