También vs tampoco

Explanation

These are the 'me too / me neither' words, and the rule is polarity matching. También adds to an affirmative: tengo hambre — yo también; me gusta — a mí también. Tampoco adds to a negative: no tengo plata — yo tampoco; no me gusta — a mí tampoco.

The classic mistake is answering a negative with también: no me gusta — *yo también. After anything negative you must switch to tampoco. Tampoco also opens negative additions of its own: tampoco es para tanto ('it's not that big a deal either'), yo tampoco lo sabía.

With gustar-type verbs the echo uses a + pronoun: me encanta — a mí también; no me convence — a mí tampoco. Match the polarity of what you're agreeing with, not the grammar of your own sentence.
