Explanation
Another group fixes de to its complement. Before an infinitive: dejar de ('to stop doing', dejé de fumar), tratar de ('to try to'), acabar de ('to have just', acabo de verlo), olvidarse de, alegrarse de. Before a noun or pronoun: acordarse de ('remember', me acuerdo de ti), depender de, enamorarse de, quejarse de.
A high-value one is darse cuenta de ('to realize'): me di cuenta de mi error, me di cuenta de que era tarde. Note it needs de, and 'to realize' is never *realizar, a false friend that actually means 'to carry out'.
Keep the de before que in these structures (acordarse de que, darse cuenta de que, alegrarse de que); dropping it (queísmo (*me di cuenta que)) is common in speech but non-standard. The opposite error, inserting de where it doesn't belong (dequeísmo (*pienso de que)) is also to be avoided.
